Obituary for Kathleen M. Ruedin (Adams)

Kathleen M. Ruedin (Adams)
Irondequoit: Passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 15, 2017 at the age of 70. Predeceased by her sister Beverly and brothers, Jim and Bob. Survived by her loving husband, Michael Ruedin; devoted children, Kimm (Joe) Benedetto, Eileen (Dave) Daudelin, Ted (Suzanne) Ruedin, and John Ruedin; her cherished grandchildren, Abbie Catone, Emma Catone, Ashley Giuliano, Lindsey and Zachary Benedetto; brothers, Ted (Madeline) Adams and Fred (Judy) Adams; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored her.
Kathie devoted many years to community service and was a pioneer for all women in firefighting. She was the first female firefighter and life long member of the Pt. Pleasant Fire Department. In 1993 she was awarded firefighter of the year and was Director of Ambulance for many years. Kathie retired from Xerox after 38 years. In addition to her work at Xerox, she also ran the Xerox Webster Ambulance. She enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, photography, and crafting. Kathie and Mike spent their early retirement traveling the country, spending 3 months in Alaska where she captured the beauty of nature through her photography. Every year she looked forward to spending winters at Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys, where she had many friends who adored her. Kathie's greatest joy came from the times she spent with her grandchildren. She created traditions and memories they will always cherish. She will be remembered for her community service, devotion to her family, creativity, compassion for others and her candor.
The last 2 years she battled non-alcoholic liver disease and held out desperate hope for a transplant that was not meant to be. The family would like to thank the Strong Memorial Hospital transplant team, doctors, nurses on the 8th floor, 3600 unit, especially nurses, Aimee, Cat, Leslie and Alex. You are all special people who took great care of her.
Friends are welcome Saturday 1-5pm at the Dreier-Giltner Funeral Home Inc. 1717 Portland Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pt. Pleasant Fire Association 55 Ewer Ave. Rochester, NY 14622
