Obituary for Sister Edith Natalie Francione

Brighton: Sister Edith Francione, RSM (M. Caritas) was called home by her God on January 31, 2018, during her 70th year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister Edith graduated from Annhurst College, CT with a BS in French. She taught French and music in several Diocesan Catholic Schools followed by teaching at Our Lady of Mercy HS. She joined the Spiritual Apostolate in 1979 and also became involved in hospital ministry at Genesee Hospital, walking side by side with the terminally ill. In 2005, she worked on annulments for the Diocese of Rochester. She is the author of, “Why Not Me, Lord?”, a book that deals with the Mystery of Life, and Dying with Dignity. For many years, Sister Edith gathered men and women for a prayer group at Mercy Center. In 2002 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Italian American Community Center.
Survivors include her sister, Sister Faith Francione, RSM, sisters-in-law, Florence (Albert) , Gerry (Ernest), nieces, a nephew, and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friends are welcome Friday, February 2, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road, where her vigil service will be held at 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 3, at 10 AM at Mercy Center. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
