Brighton: Sister Margaret Mary Mattle (M. Magella) was called home by her God on May 16, 2018 during her 69th year as a Sister of Mercy. She taught Vocal & Instrumental music at St. James, St. Salome and St. Louis, Our Lady of Mercy HS and Catherine McAuley College. Her musical ability, coupled with a degree in Theology and Scripture from St. Bernard’s, served her well as Secretary to the Diocesan Liturgy Commission. She was coordinator of prayer/ liturgy for sisters in the Rochester area and Director of Formation for the Sisters of Mercy. In addition to being a founding member of Mercy Prayer Center, she did retreat work at the Cenacle. While ministering in Santiago, Chile, she was a pastoral associate and spiritual director. Upon returning to the US, she worked with the rural poor in the Bath area of Steuben County. In retirement she gave herself to the spiritual works of mercy with profound generosity and knowledge of God’s ways.
She is survived by her sisters, Sister Annette Mattle, RC, Mary Lou Brooks (Richard), nieces and nephews and the Sisters of Mercy.
Friends are welcome on Monday, May 21 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road, where her vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 22 at 10:00 AM at Mercy Center. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
