Obituary for The Rev. Wayne S. Pittenger

Pittsford: December 14, 2016 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Joan. Survived by his children, Eric (Ann) Pittenger, Beth (Michael) Chapin, Lauren (Thomas) Stenerson, and Johan (Suzanne) Wilson; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Jonathan, Benjamin, Amanda, Molly, Bradly, and Eric; great-grandchild, Addison. Pastor Pittenger received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from Wittenberg College in Springfield, Ohio and his Master of Divinity Degree from Wittenberg's Hamma Divinity School. In the early 60's Pastor Pittenger earned his Masters Degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Rochester. Throughout his life, he remained intellectually curious, pursuing biblical and archeology scholarship. Joined by his wife Joan, he served as site supervisor on three archeology explorations at the Tell el-Hesi Excavation in Israel. Pastor was dedicated to his parish ministry, loved by the members of the churches he served, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pittsford and as Interim Pastor at the Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration in Irondequoit. He was deeply respected by his peers and those who called him "Pastor". It goes without saying, that his family deeply loved and respected him as mentor and father.

Pastor Pittenger's Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 17 at 2pm at the Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
