Condolence: I'm sharing this note with Kathy (and Greg's family) at the request of Rob Hochstetler, a plant manager at Kodak's power station in the early 2000's. Greg interacted with Rob as a business consultant on and off for several years and during this brief time Greg made a lasting impression on Rob.

"I wish I had time to get this story to Kathy, but if there is a chance to share it feel free.

Greg was a friend of mine, but there is something he said to me once that maybe took him 10 seconds or less to say that has stayed with me for well over a decade now. I suspect there are not many days that go by, and for sure not a week, that I don’t think about what he said concerning what it means to be an American.

It was 2004 and one of the stories in the spring was of the atrocities at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. I mentioned to Greg that it didn’t seem like that big of a deal to me: guards taking inappropriate pictures with prisoners. Greg stopped me in my tracks and fervently disagreed. He simply said, I was wrong because America is different.

“Americans’, and certainly not soldiers, can’t do that sort of thing. America and Americans are different.”

Wow, this hit me hard. America is different. I quickly realized that we are different because of fine humans like Greg that stand up and say what is right and what is wrong. From that point forward, I’ve tried to be a good American and when possible standing up for right and wrong."

Condolence: From my younger years at St. Ambrose, I will always remember you looking out for me and making sure I was well behaved. You always had a smile and kind words for me. My service in EMS overlapped yours in the Fire Service. Our current jobs in the Town had some funny stories intertwined. I will deeply miss you my friend and whenever I think of you, I will see that big 'ol smile on your face, hear that laughter and know that you lived quite the full life. God Bless you and your family from now until we meet again.

So sorry to hear about Greg. I remember him well when we were growing up. He was a great big brother. It is so hard to lose a sibling. I am thinking of you and your family.

Condolence: Kathy and family,
I have been your next door neighbor for 20 years now. Through those years I got to know Greg and you. Greg was always a help if needed, and loved to joke with me every time we saw each other outside. He loved his family ( including Brie), and I will miss seeing him out doing the lawn or out walking Brie, or simply out piddling around. He was a great guy, and I will simply miss him.

Condolence: Dear Kathy and Family,
We are shocked, as everyone is at Greg's sudden passing. He was such a big hearted, kind, giving and gracious guy! On top of that he told a great joke! You guys have always been so good to us, welcoming us into your home, coming down to Florida to join in Michael and Virginia's visit, coming to China and being the best of expats. So many memories!
Our hearts and and prayers are with you.
Love,
Linda and John
